Get Free AdviceWhy ECR
Plenty of exterior cleaners will turn up, blast a surface with a jet washer and leave. ECR does it differently. Every job starts with an honest look at what actually needs doing, the right equipment and technique for that surface, and a finish that's built to last, not just look good for a week.
Real reviews from real customers
★★★★★"Excellent work by Brad today; full works on the guttering, facias and soffits. Brad was polite, friendly and is clearly a grafter! What looked like 10kg of soil and muck came out of the guttering, and the front and back garden were left immaculate. 100% recommendation!"

Our story
ECR is run by Brad, a Seaham-based exterior cleaner who takes genuine pride in turning up, doing the job properly and leaving a property looking better than when he arrived. As a sole trader, every job is handled personally, from the first phone call to the final photo of the finished work.
Most of our work comes through recommendations from previous customers across Seaham, Sunderland and the wider County Durham area. That reputation is earned one gutter, one driveway and one UPVC frame at a time, and it's the reason we treat every job, big or small, with the same level of care.
Today we handle everything from a quick gutter clear to full driveway, roof, decking and UPVC refreshes, and our 34 Facebook reviews with a 100% recommendation rate show how that approach has been received.

The service
Blocked gutters overflow onto brickwork, saturate render and can eventually find their way into your foundations. ECR clears gutters using a high-reach vacuum system operated from ground level, so there's no ladder resting against your fascias and no risk of standing on a roof that isn't built for it. It reaches up to three storeys, covering everything from bungalows to taller terraced and semi-detached homes.
Every job removes the leaves, moss, silt and the odd bird's nest that build up over a year, and we check the outlets and downpipes to make sure water is actually flowing away once we've finished. Where the system allows, a camera lets us show you what came out and confirm the gutter is genuinely clear, not just cleared at the visible edge.
Common questions
Once or twice a year is enough for most homes, ideally in autumn once the leaves have come down and again in spring. Properties surrounded by trees, especially overhanging ones, often need clearing more frequently to stop blockages building up.
Ground-level access to the relevant side of the property is all that's needed, no need to go inside. If a rear gutter can only be reached from a neighbour's garden, we'll talk you through the options and you can decide whether to arrange access.
Yes. While clearing, we keep an eye out for cracked joints, sagging brackets or gutters pulling away from the fascia, and we'll flag anything we see. There's no obligation to book further work, it's simply useful information for you.
Get them cleared before winter rain finds its way somewhere it shouldn't.
The service
Driveways and patios build up moss, algae, weed growth in the joints and dark staining over time, especially in a coastal, damp climate like ours. ECR jet washes at a pressure matched to the surface, lifting dirt and growth without blasting out the jointing sand or chipping the edges of the blocks, which cheaper, careless washing can easily do.
Once the surface is clean, joints are re-sanded with kiln-dried sand to stabilise the blocks and slow down weed regrowth, rather than leaving bare joints for moss to move straight back into. For anyone after a longer-lasting result, sealing is available on request, giving a richer finish and making future maintenance easier.
Common questions
Not when it's done properly. We match the pressure and nozzle to the surface, cleaning block paving differently to natural stone or concrete, so the finish is lifted without eroding the surface or stripping out the jointing sand.
Most general staining and dirt lifts well. Deep-set oil or rust marks can be more stubborn and may need additional treatment, so we'll always be upfront if a stain is likely to fade rather than disappear completely.
You can usually walk on it straight away. We'd recommend avoiding parking a car on it until it's fully dry and the new jointing sand has had a chance to settle, typically around 24 hours.

The service
Moss traps moisture against tiles, works its way under them and, once it washes down, ends up clogging the gutters below. Rather than blasting a roof directly with a high-pressure jet, which can crack tiles or force water underneath, ECR removes moss by careful brushing and scraping, then treats the roof to slow regrowth.
Because we're up there anyway, it's a good opportunity to check ridge tiles, flashing and valleys for anything loose or damaged, and to flag it honestly rather than leave it for you to find out the hard way. Any debris that's come loose is cleared from the gutters before we finish, so the job is left properly tidy.
Common questions
Generally yes, as long as the method suits the roof. We assess the tiles first and use gentle brushing and treatment rather than aggressive pressure washing, which is where most damage to older or more brittle tiles comes from.
It will slow it down significantly, but no treatment stops moss returning forever, especially on shaded, north-facing roofs. Periodic treatment every couple of years keeps growth well under control without needing a full clean each time.
Yes, flat and felt roofs are cleared of moss, leaves and general debris using methods appropriate to the roof covering, helping outlets stay clear and water drain away properly.
Get it dealt with before it lifts tiles or blocks your gutters.
The service
Decking in shaded or damp corners of the garden picks up algae and green mould quickly, especially in the North East's weather, and it can turn genuinely dangerous underfoot long before it looks obviously dirty. ECR cleans decking at a low-to-moderate pressure and works along the grain, lifting grime and growth without splintering or gouging the timber.
Once cleaned, the gaps between boards are cleared of trapped leaves and debris that hold moisture against the wood, and, on request, we can apply a decking oil or preserver to protect the timber and slow the return of algae. Composite decking is cleaned using a gentler method suited to its finish, avoiding damage to the surface coating.
Common questions
Not with the right pressure and technique. We use a lower setting than you'd use on stone or concrete and always work along the grain, which lifts dirt and algae without splintering the timber or damaging composite finishes.
Once a year is usually enough for decking in an open, sunny spot. Shaded or damp gardens tend to grow algae faster and may benefit from a clean twice a year to stay safe underfoot.
Yes, an oil or preserver can be applied once the deck is clean and dry, which helps protect the timber and slows down how quickly algae and mould return.
Get it cleaned and treated before it becomes a hazard.
The service
White UPVC yellows and greys over time from sun exposure, traffic pollution and algae, especially on north-facing or coastal properties. ECR uses a soft-wash method that's safe on seals, trims and glazing, with a cleaning solution that lifts ingrained grime and black mould spotting rather than scrubbing at the surface and risking scratches.
The service covers window frames, doors, fascias, soffits and cladding, and conservatory roofs can be included on request. Most customers are genuinely surprised by how much brighter the UPVC looks once the years of build-up are gone, it's one of the quickest ways to lift the whole front of a house.
Common questions
No. We use non-abrasive products designed for UPVC that are safe on seals, trims and glazing, so there's no risk to the frames or the weatherproofing around your windows and doors.
Yes, conservatory roofs can be included as part of a UPVC clean, bringing back light into the room that's often lost to years of algae and grime build-up on the panels.
Once or twice a year keeps frames, doors and fascias looking fresh and stops grime and algae building up to the point where it's harder to shift.

The service
Guttering only does its job when it's watertight and running to the right fall. Years of weather, blockages and the odd failed bracket leave joints leaking, sections sagging and downpipes cracked, and once water starts running down the brickwork instead of away from it, damp and staining soon follow.
ECR repairs and replaces UPVC guttering, downpipes and fittings across Seaham and County Durham. Where a repair will genuinely last we'll repair, re-seal a leaking joint, refix a loose bracket or realign a run, and where a section is beyond saving we'll replace it, colour-matched to the rest of your guttering, or fit a complete new system.
Common questions
Often a single leaking joint, loose bracket or damaged section is all that needs sorting. We'll always repair where a repair will genuinely last, and only recommend replacement when it's the more sensible, longer-lasting option.
Yes. Alongside gutter clearing, we repair and fully replace UPVC guttering, downpipes and fittings, matched to the colour of your existing system so it looks right.
Water overflowing or running down the wall, runs that sag and hold standing water, and cracked or split sections are the usual signs. Send us a photo and we'll tell you honestly whether it needs a repair or a replacement.
Get it sorted before water damage sets into the brickwork.
The service
Hard surfaces around the home slowly disappear under a film of algae, moss and ingrained grime, and a driveway or patio that's turned green and slippery can make the whole property look tired. Professional pressure washing strips all of that back, bringing block paving, flags, concrete, brick and tarmac back to how they should look.
ECR matches the pressure and technique to each surface, so the dirt lifts without pitting the concrete, stripping pointing or damaging the finish. Weeds and moss are cleared as we go, and for block paving the joints can be re-sanded afterwards to keep the blocks stable and slow down how quickly the green comes back.
Common questions
Driveways, patios, paths, steps, yards, and brick or rendered walls, among others. We match the pressure and technique to the surface so it comes up clean without any damage.
Not when it's done properly. We use a controlled pressure suited to the blocks and can re-sand the joints afterwards, which keeps everything stable and slows down weed and moss regrowth.
Moss, algae, weeds and general grime lift easily. Oil and rust marks can be tackled too, though very deep stains may lighten rather than vanish completely, and we'll always be upfront about what's achievable.
